The major uses of a water softener include converting hard, minerals-laden water into fresh, soft water. Basically, water softeners take out extra calcium and magnesium out of water and also the problems caused due to hard water. We have listed a few ill-effects of hard water and how water softener can solve the concerns.

Water Softener Prevents Scales

Scale is is a hard, chalky substance made up of calcium, magnesium bicarbonate, and other minerals dissolved in hard water. Hard water forms mineral build ups on the inner surfaces of plumbing pipes. These scales or mineral build ups narrow the passage for water flow and reduce the speed of water. This may also result in damaged plumbing. Water softener lowers the chances of mineral build ups by eliminating these minerals from water.

Water Softeners Prevent Stains

Hard water leaves behind residues and stains on the surface of utensils, glasswares, bathroom accessories such as the mirror, and plumbing fixtures such as faucets, showerheads, sinks, bathtubs, etc. These residues are formed when hard water evaporates from these surfaces and leaves behind calcium and other minerals. Water softener prevents your plumbing fixtures, utensils, and other items from getting stained by the minerals.

Water Softener Makes Your Skin and Hair Better

The excessive minerals in hard water cause skin irritation and inflammation, dry and itchy skin and scalp, blackheads, dandruff, and flaky scalp. Simply said, hard water can eventually ruin your skin and hair. Soaps and shampoos cannot wash these minerals thoroughly as they don’t dissolve well in hard water. A water softener removes these excess minerals and protects your skin and hair and retains the essential natural softness and moisture.

Water Softener Protects Your Clothes

Hard water fades clothes and makes them look dull. Washing clothes with hard water is not a good idea as it does not clean the clothes properly. This is because hard water cannot dissolve powder or even liquid detergents and they remain hard due to detergent and mineral residues. Also, these clothes become itchy when you wear them. Soft water obtained with the help of a water softener can dissolve detergents and clean clothes efficiently. Also, they retain the softness and bright colors of clothes.

Water Softener Controls Water Bills

Hard water not only cuts down on the efficiency of your appliances and the plumbing system, but also costs you extra money in the long run for repairs and maintenance work. As hard water results in scale build ups on the inner surface of plumbing, it obstructs the free flow of water through the plumbing system. It takes extra effort and time for water to flow and thus, you may obtain high utility and water bills. Professional plumbers recommend installing a water softener to curb the bills.

With a water softener in place, you can safeguard your appliances by eliminating the constant need of appliance and plumbing repairs. Take a step towards healthy life and get rid of these problems caused due to hard water in your home by installing a water softener. I have a friend who has been complaining a lot recently about how bad their dishwasher and washing machine have been doing at cleaning their dishes and clothes. After hearing about it I wondered if they have hard water. Like you mentioned, there are a lot of different things that hard water can do from staining the dishes to causing irritation in the skin. I am going to refer him to this blog so that he can look more into hard water and getting his water tested.
